Exequiel Palacios Joins Ipswich Town as First World Cup Winner
Exequiel Palacios, the Argentina midfielder, has joined Ipswich Town from Bayer Leverkusen, marking him as the first World Cup winner to sign for the club.
The 27-year-old left the Bundesliga team for an undisclosed fee and has committed to a four-year contract with the Premier League newcomers. Palacios was part of the Argentina squad that won the World Cup in 2022 and reached the final in 2023, in addition to winning the Copa America twice.
Palacios, who has 41 caps for Argentina, expressed enthusiasm about playing in England and competing against top clubs. Ipswich manager Gary O'Neil noted that Palacios' experience at the highest level will be crucial as the team aims to enhance its squad. During his time at Bayer Leverkusen, Palacios made 186 appearances and scored 15 goals, contributing to the club's first Bundesliga title in the 2023-24 season.
