Exploring Penn State's Non-Football White Out Traditions
Penn State University has established a White Out tradition that goes beyond its football program, with several other sports participating in this annual event. Since 2004, the White Out has created a vibrant atmosphere at Beaver Stadium, encouraging fans to wear white for home games.
Other sports, including men’s basketball, women’s volleyball, and men’s and women’s hockey, also host White Out games. Notably, the men’s basketball team will have its White Out game on January 20, 2027, against Purdue, while women’s volleyball is set for October 31, 2026, against the same opponent.
The tradition began in 2011 with significant games, such as the men’s basketball matchup against Ohio State, which drew a large crowd despite a loss. Recent performances in these events have varied, with the women’s volleyball team achieving a notable victory against Wisconsin in October 2025. The upcoming schedules continue to reflect the enduring popularity of the White Out across Penn State athletics.
