A travel group consisting of Dutch, German, and Italian members explored Uzbekistan from September 21 to 29, visiting Bukhara, Samarkand, and Tashkent. Organized by Ardjan Langedijk, a chess player and travel company owner, the journey aimed to immerse participants in the local culture while attending the Chess Olympiad.
The group began in Bukhara, where they admired historical sites such as the Samanid Mausoleum and Kalon Mosque. They participated in a friendly chess match against young Uzbek players, winning 15-12. In Samarkand, they experienced the vibrant Siyob Bazaar and the iconic Registan square, balancing cultural exploration with chess competitions.
As the Olympiad progressed, the group witnessed Germany compete against the Netherlands, with Germany ultimately securing a bronze medal. The experience highlighted the successful blend of cultural discovery and competitive spirit, leaving lasting memories for all participants.
