FAI Withdraws Support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) has officially withdrawn its support for Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA. This decision follows a board meeting and comes as pressure mounts on Infantino from various football associations.

The FAI's change in stance aligns with a recent joint statement from UEFA, Concacaf, and the Asian Football Confederation, which criticized Infantino for a failed proposal to sell a stake in FIFA's commercial operations to private investors. Although the proposal has been abandoned, it has led to significant backlash against Infantino, jeopardizing his chances for a fourth term.

Previously, the FAI had supported Infantino's re-election, but it expressed concerns regarding governance and transparency in its statement. The Irish Football Association (IFA) has not formally withdrawn its support but has expressed alignment with UEFA's position on the matter.
