Falcons Announce Tua Tagovailoa as Starting QB for Week 1
The Atlanta Falcons have confirmed that Tua Tagovailoa will start as quarterback in their Week 1 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers. This announcement comes as the Falcons were the last team to finalize their starting quarterback for the season opener.
Michael Penix Jr., who was only cleared for 11-on-11 drills in late August, will not participate in the game. Head coach Kevin Stefanski indicated that Penix is still working on his recovery and is not yet ready to play, although he mentioned that Penix is close to regaining full strength.
Tagovailoa has been the primary quarterback during the offseason training sessions, and he will lead the Falcons' offense for the time being. The team's approach to the quarterback position beyond Week 1 remains uncertain, especially as Penix continues his rehabilitation from a previous injury.
