Falcons QB Michael Penix Anticipates Medical Clearance Soon
Michael Penix Jr., the starting quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, is looking forward to receiving full medical clearance soon as he continues his recovery from a partially torn ACL. The Falcons are entering a new phase with Matt Ryan in the front office and Ian Cunningham as the new general manager.
Penix, who was the No. 8 overall pick in the 2024 draft, had his first season as a full-time starter cut short due to injury, finishing with a 3-6 record and a completion percentage of 60.1 over nine games. He managed to throw for an average of 220 yards per game while limiting himself to just three interceptions.
As he progresses through recovery, Penix has participated in team drills and is awaiting a meeting with his doctor to discuss his readiness for more intensive activities. His competition for the starting position includes Tua Tagovailoa, who has struggled in his preseason debut. If cleared, Penix will have limited time to secure his starting role before the season begins.
