Families of Babies Fail to Challenge CPS Decision on Lucy Letby

The families of six babies allegedly harmed by Lucy Letby have been unsuccessful in their attempt to challenge the Crown Prosecution Service's (CPS) decision not to file additional charges against her.

In January, the CPS determined that there was insufficient evidence to pursue new counts of murder and attempted murder related to nine babies, including two fatalities. Following this, the families sought a review through the Victims' Right to Review scheme, but the CPS confirmed that the original decision was upheld after an extensive review by an independent prosecutor.

Lucy Letby, who is currently serving 15 whole life terms for the murder of seven babies and the attempted murder of seven others at the Countess of Chester Hospital, has faced scrutiny regarding earlier incidents involving non-fatal collapses and deaths of infants. The Criminal Cases Review Commission is also reviewing an application from Letby's legal team, which argues that medical care and natural causes contributed to the babies' conditions.
