Fan Footy Website Changes Ownership After 21 Years
Fan Footy, a well-known website for real-time Aussie rules fantasy scores, has officially changed ownership after 21 years of operation. The site, which peaked at 125 million annual page views, has seen a decline in traffic, prompting the decision to sell.
Founder Paul Montgomery announced the sale, citing a drop in revenue and the realization that this was likely his last chance for an exit. He reflected on the emotional significance of the sale, noting that many founders have had to shut down their sites without any financial return.
The Maltese company Clickout Media has acquired Fan Footy, but Montgomery does not anticipate that it will continue to operate in its previous form. He has chosen not to create a similar service elsewhere, focusing instead on developing a new game titled Mr Football, set for release on multiple platforms.
