Farid Basharat Critiques UFC's Focus on Violence After Contract Non-Renewal
Farid Basharat, an undefeated mixed martial artist, has publicly criticized the UFC for its emphasis on violent finishes and highlight-reel knockouts, suggesting that this focus detracts from the sport's competitive integrity. His comments come shortly after the UFC chose not to renew his contract, despite his impressive record of 7-0 in the promotion and 16-0 overall.
Basharat expressed concern that the UFC is cultivating a fan base that values bloodshed over high-quality fights, arguing that this approach could ultimately harm the sport's legitimacy. He noted that while the UFC has secured a lucrative seven-year deal worth $7.7 billion, financial success does not equate to prioritizing the right aspects of MMA.
In response to Basharat's exit, UFC President Dana White indicated that an unbeaten record does not guarantee a fighter's place in the organization, citing various factors that influence roster decisions. Basharat, however, maintains that his departure was not due to his performance or willingness to fight, as he consistently sought challenging opponents during his time with the UFC.
