FAW Chief Calls for FIFA President Gianni Infantino to Resign
Noel Mooney, the chief executive of the Football Association of Wales, has stated that FIFA president Gianni Infantino should resign. This call comes as Infantino faces significant backlash for his proposal to sell stakes in the World Cup and other FIFA competitions to private investors.
Mooney, who has previously collaborated with Infantino at UEFA, expressed that despite Infantino's successful career, the recent sell-off plan, which has now been abandoned, has caused considerable harm to football. Earlier this month, Wales became the first home nation to withdraw support for Infantino's continued presidency.
Mooney emphasized the need for a review of FIFA's governance and processes, highlighting that trust has been eroded among many football associations globally. He noted that the concentration of power within the FIFA presidency is problematic and called for a collaborative approach to restore trust in the organization.
