FEI Suspends Equestrian Federation of India Due to Governance Issues
The International Equestrian Federation (FEI) has announced the suspension of the Equestrian Federation of India (EFI) effective December 1, due to ongoing governance issues. This decision prohibits Indian riders, officials, trainers, and horses from competing in international events during the suspension period.
The FEI's decision, communicated in a letter to EFI's ad hoc committee on October 15, follows a prolonged governance crisis stemming from the dissolution of EFI's executive committee by the Delhi High Court in February. The court's ruling, combined with the lack of new elections, has led to a situation deemed unsustainable by the FEI.
While the FEI acknowledged the efforts of the ad hoc committee, it emphasized that the suspension will remain in place until elections for a new executive committee are held and evaluated. The FEI also noted that Indian endurance trainers with horses registered under other national federations must notify changes by November 17 to ensure eligibility for competition after the suspension begins.
