Fernando Alonso Critiques Driving Standards After US Grand Prix Incident
Fernando Alonso criticized the driving standards of lower-ranked Formula 1 drivers after a collision with Alex Albon during the opening lap of the United States Grand Prix in Austin. The incident resulted in Alonso losing four positions and sustaining damage to his Aston Martin's floor.
Starting from 12th on the grid, Alonso lost one position at the start while Albon gained three places. The two drivers battled for position through the Esses, but contact occurred at Turn 11 when Alonso attempted to pass. Albon's front-right wheel struck Alonso's car, pushing him onto the kerb and causing visible damage.
Alonso finished the race in 12th place and expressed his dissatisfaction with the damage, stating it significantly affected his car's performance. He noted that the incident was a typical outcome of multiple cars vying for the same space. Albon, who also sustained damage, explained that he misjudged the situation during the maneuver.
