Fernando Alonso Discusses Future of F1 with FIA and CEO

Fernando Alonso has revealed that he has engaged in discussions with both the FIA president and the CEO of Formula 1 about the future of the sport. These talks come as the Madrid weekend begins, amidst concerns regarding the FIA's willingness to alter rules to retain Alonso and Honda in F1.

Despite these discussions, Alonso has not yet committed to another season. He has been critical of the 2026 regulations and expressed dissatisfaction with the current circuit layout, particularly regarding energy management issues. He noted that the driver input in certain corners has diminished, suggesting that the racing experience should allow for more driver skill to influence performance.

Alonso confirmed his ongoing communication with FIA president Mohammed ben Sulayem and F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, emphasizing the need for improvements in the sport before 2031. He believes that drivers should have a significant role in circuit design to enhance competition.
