Fernando Alonso's Future in F1 Depends on Regulations, Not Team Performance

Fernando Alonso, the 45-year-old driver for Aston Martin, has stated that his future in Formula 1 will be determined by upcoming regulatory changes rather than his team's performance. His current contract is set to expire at the end of the 2026 season.

Alonso recently achieved a points finish at the Dutch Grand Prix, but he believes that this result is insufficient for his continued presence in the sport. He noted that the competitiveness of Aston Martin, currently near the bottom of the standings, will not influence his decision. Instead, he expressed concerns about the 2026 regulations, which he finds unsatisfactory, and mentioned that changes expected in 2027 could lead to a return to more combustion power.

Despite the challenges, Alonso remains optimistic about the team's development, particularly with improvements to the AMR26 chassis and Honda power unit. He acknowledged the need for further enhancements in both areas to be competitive in the future. Alonso also expressed confidence in Honda's capabilities, hoping for significant progress within a few years.
