Fernando Mendoza Faces Tough NFL Debut Against Texans
Fernando Mendoza experienced a challenging debut as a starting quarterback in the NFL during a game between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Houston Texans. The rookie's performance included no touchdowns and one interception, which was a pick-six, contributing to a difficult night on the field.
The interception occurred early in the game when Mendoza, under pressure, threw a pass intended for running back Mike Washington Jr. Houston's Wade Woodaz intercepted the ball and returned it 80 yards for a touchdown, putting the Texans ahead 14-0. Mendoza completed eight of 15 passes for 86 yards, faced one sack, and ended the game without scoring.
Despite Mendoza's struggles, the Raiders managed to win the game 22-20 after Aidan O’Connell took over in the second half and led a comeback from a 20-3 deficit. Mendoza acknowledged the steep learning curve of the NFL, emphasizing the need for improvement. Raiders' head coach Klint Kubiak noted that there are many areas for Mendoza to develop, while also recognizing the challenges posed by facing a strong Texans defense.
