Fernando Mendoza Takes First-Team Reps Amid QB Competition
Fernando Mendoza, the quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders, had the opportunity to take first-team reps during practice on Saturday, a valuable experience for a rookie transitioning from college football to the NFL.
This chance arose after Kirk Cousins and defensive end Maxx Crosby were sidelined due to a physical altercation, allowing Mendoza to step up. During practice, he demonstrated his arm strength with touchdown passes to teammates Brock Bowers and Tre Tucker, although he faced challenges adapting to the pace of the NFL.
Despite showing promise, Mendoza's mobility has been identified as an area for improvement. His pocket presence has improved since the offseason, helping him evade pressure and make positive plays. Raiders quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan praised Mendoza's work ethic and dedication, noting his commitment to the process of becoming a successful quarterback.
