FIA Acknowledges Potential Revisions Needed for F1's ADUO System
Nikolas Tombazis, the FIA's single-seater director, has indicated that the ADUO system, designed to assist manufacturers that fall behind in Formula 1, may need reevaluation in the coming years. This admission comes amid significant political debate surrounding the system during the current season.
The ADUO system was implemented partly in response to Honda's previous challenges under older regulations. However, it has sparked controversy, particularly after Red Bull Ford Powertrains topped the FIA's initial rankings, surprising many in the paddock. Concerns have been raised regarding the measurement methods, which focus solely on the internal combustion engine, potentially overlooking other aspects of the power unit.
Tombazis acknowledged that while the measurements are accurate, the system's effectiveness as intended is under scrutiny. He noted that the competitive nature of the teams complicates the situation, and while Red Bull has expressed frustration, he believes that the system's design may need adjustments to reduce controversy and improve functionality in the future.
