FIA Aims to Attract Chinese Manufacturers to World Rally Championship

The FIA is targeting the inclusion of Chinese automotive manufacturers in the World Rally Championship (WRC) as interest from the sector increases. Currently, the WRC features three manufacturers: Ford, Toyota, and Hyundai.

The FIA has long sought to expand the number of constructors in the WRC, a goal that aligns with upcoming technical regulations set to be introduced next year. Toyota has committed to these new rules, while M-Sport is expected to continue representing Ford with an updated Fiesta Rally2 car.

FIA deputy for sport Malcolm Wilson expressed optimism about the WRC's future, aiming for six constructors by 2029. He noted that attracting Chinese manufacturers is a clear objective, especially as three Chinese brands have recently joined the FIA's manufacturer committee. Interest in motorsport is rising within the Chinese automotive industry, which could lead to a future WRC round in China.
