FIA Announces ADUO Rankings for Power Units
The FIA has published the ADUO rankings, which assess power unit performance under the 2026 Formula 1 technical regulations. This mechanism allows manufacturers whose Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) performance is significantly below the top-performing unit to receive homologation upgrades and increased allowances for costs and testing.
Following the first two review periods, Red Bull's power unit has been identified as the benchmark. Mercedes falls within the 2-4% performance gap, permitting them one additional homologation in both 2026 and 2027. In contrast, Audi, Ferrari, and Honda, which exceeded a 4% gap, will receive two additional homologations for each of the same years.
No further homologations were granted for the second review period. The FIA emphasized the confidentiality of the performance index measurements, with the Director of Single Seaters, Nikolas Tombazis, stating that the analysis process was thorough and robust. The next review period will encompass races 12-18 of the season.
