FIA Completes Investigation into Bahrain Grand Prix Software Issues
The FIA has concluded its investigation into the software issues that impacted multiple cars at the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia. The review focused on the circumstances that led to a necessary upgrade of Power Unit software configurations before the race.
The investigation revealed that certain cars experienced a significant loss of power during the formation lap due to low engine RPM in specific sectors, where a 250kW power reduction was applied. To prevent similar occurrences, the FIA plans to reinstate the configuration used for the Sepang event for the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix, contingent on weather conditions. An updated wet weather software will also be introduced for the United States Grand Prix.
The FIA emphasized the importance of robust software testing and will enhance validation processes through collaboration with teams and Power Unit manufacturers. Prior to deployment, the software underwent simulation exercises and was tested during Free Practice sessions at previous Grand Prix events. The FIA acknowledged the efforts of all stakeholders involved in swiftly resolving the issue, allowing the race to proceed safely.
