FIA Considers Legal Action Over Online Abuse of F1 Stewards

The FIA is looking into legal measures after its stewards faced online harassment related to penalties imposed on Franco Colapinto during the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort.

Colapinto and another driver, Arvid Lindblad, received drive-through penalties for overtaking under a double-waved yellow flag on the first lap. The penalties were issued after a crash involving Max Verstappen led to yellow flags being waved, and both drivers were deemed to have violated safety regulations.

Colapinto's sponsor, Mercado Libre, criticized the FIA stewards on social media, which intensified the online abuse directed at them. In response, Alpine expressed trust in the FIA's decision-making process while acknowledging the penalties were harsh but consistent with the rules. The FIA has condemned the online abuse and emphasized the importance of respectful engagement in sports.
