FIA Reduces Recoverable Energy to 5MJ for 2026 Italian Grand Prix at Monza

The FIA has set a new limit of 5MJ for recoverable energy during the 2026 Italian Grand Prix at Monza, a change aimed at maintaining high-speed racing while altering the dynamics of track action.

This adjustment marks a decrease from the previous limit of 6MJ per lap used in Austria, reflecting the unique challenges posed by Monza's long straights and limited braking zones. As a result, cars are expected to experience reduced top speeds, particularly when compared to Hungary, where energy management was less restrictive.

Drivers and teams, including McLaren's Andrea Stella and Oscar Piastri, have noted that the energy constraints will lead to early battery depletion on straights, potentially stabilizing or lowering speeds. The new energy management rules are anticipated to enhance slipstreaming opportunities, with predictions of increased overtaking maneuvers during the race.
