FIA Responds to Online Abuse of Zandvoort Stewards
The FIA has condemned the online abuse directed at the stewards who officiated the Dutch Grand Prix after penalties were imposed on driver Franco Colapinto.
Colapinto received a drive-through penalty and two penalty points for overtaking Yuki Tsunoda under yellow flags. The stewards noted that while such an infringement typically warrants a harsher penalty, they considered the hazardous conditions on track due to debris from Max Verstappen's crash as mitigating factors.
In response to the backlash, including criticism from Colapinto and his supporters, the FIA reiterated its commitment to fair competition and safety. The governing body emphasized that while disagreements with decisions are part of sports, they do not justify harassment or threats against officials.
