FIA to Decide on WRC Saudi Arabia Finale by Mid-September
The FIA has announced that a decision regarding the World Rally Championship's season finale in Saudi Arabia will be made by mid-September. This comes as the situation in the Middle East remains volatile, particularly due to the ongoing US/Israeli conflict involving Iran.
The WRC finale is scheduled for November 11-14, but its future is uncertain given the recent collapse of a ceasefire between Iran and the US/Israel, which has led to renewed hostilities and heightened risks for commercial shipping in the region.
FIA road sport director Emilia Abel indicated that discussions are ongoing with the event promoter and manufacturer teams to navigate the situation. While there are currently no contingency plans to replace the Saudi event, the FIA is actively working to ensure it proceeds as planned, acknowledging the logistical challenges involved in organizing a WRC event.
