FIA's Tombazis Acknowledges Weaknesses in ADUO System
Nikolas Tombazis, the FIA's single-seater director, has acknowledged that the ADUO system, introduced to create a more balanced competitive environment in Formula 1, has notable weaknesses. This admission comes as the FIA seeks to address concerns regarding the system's effectiveness.
The ADUO system was implemented to prevent a repeat of the dominance seen from 2014 to 2020, when Mercedes won a significant majority of races. However, the system's design focused solely on the internal combustion engine's performance, excluding the electric components, which has led to discrepancies in how teams are evaluated.
Tombazis emphasized the challenges of achieving consensus among teams and manufacturers, noting that while some aspects, like the August shutdown, are widely accepted, many other elements remain contentious. He stated that while the measurement system has been accurate, improvements are necessary to reduce controversy and enhance its functionality in the future.
