FIDE and World Chess Apply for New .chess Domain Extension

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) and World Chess have filed an application with ICANN for the .chess top-level domain, marking the first opportunity to establish such a domain in over ten years. If approved, this domain will allow federations, clubs, tournaments, and titled players to have verified domain names ending in .chess.

The application was submitted as a community application, which may provide an advantage over competing applications during ICANN's Community Priority Evaluation process. Currently, chess-related domains are spread across various extensions, and .chess aims to unify them under a single, recognized identifier for the chess community.

FIDE will act as the institutional sponsor of the domain, while World Chess will manage the application and operations if it is approved. Registration for the .chess domain will commence only after ICANN's approval, with an early-access list available for interested parties at worldchess.com/domains.
