FIFA President Abandons Plan to Sell World Cup Profits

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has decided to abandon his controversial proposal to sell World Cup profits to private equity investors. This decision follows significant backlash from multiple sectors of the soccer community.

The plan, which aimed to establish a $20 billion company to manage the World Cup with private investors, faced immediate opposition after its announcement. UEFA's 55 member nations voted to boycott the World Cup and all FIFA competitions in response to the proposal. Additionally, both North America's CONCACAF and the Asian Football Confederation expressed their disapproval.

Infantino's senior adviser, Carlos Cordeiro, resigned from his position and called on other FIFA officials to voice their concerns. He stated that he could not support the idea of selling a stake in the World Cup, emphasizing the importance of the tournament to the sport.
