FIFPRO Criticizes Infantino's Leadership Amid UEFA Boycott

The global players' union FIFPRO has criticized Gianni Infantino, FIFA's president, for what it describes as an abuse of presidential power following his unsuccessful attempt to sell stakes in the World Cup. This condemnation comes as UEFA reaffirms its boycott of FIFA tournaments, maintaining its demand for Infantino's resignation.

Infantino's plans to privatize World Cup stakes were abandoned after facing significant backlash, including from UEFA, which had previously threatened a total boycott of FIFA competitions. Despite FIFA's management board expressing support for Infantino, FIFPRO has voiced concerns over the lack of transparency and the governance failures that allowed such plans to be proposed without proper consultation.

In a formal announcement, the Football Association declared its withdrawal of support for Infantino's re-election, scheduled for March 2027. UEFA's position remains firm, stating that the conditions for their participation in FIFA competitions have not been met, and they have lost confidence in Infantino's leadership.
