Fiji Pro Sees Record 10-Point Rides at Cloudbreak
The Fiji Pro at Cloudbreak showcased an impressive three 10-point rides, more than the total from the other seven Championship Tour events this season, which recorded only two. The World Surf League's strategy to wait for a swell during the event's waiting period proved successful.
Erin Brooks initiated the event with a perfect wave, followed by Kauli Vaast, who demonstrated his skills from Teahupo’o with his own flawless ride. Gabriel Medina capped the event with a 10-point score in the final, although it was not sufficient to secure a victory against Cole Houshmand, who achieved two excellent scores.
Medina's perfect wave marked his 23rd excellent score at Cloudbreak, where he exited a long tube while signaling for a perfect score. Vaast, competing at Cloudbreak for the first time, also impressed with a 9.07 backup score. Brooks, who ultimately won the event, began her campaign with a perfect wave and an additional eight-point ride, showcasing her talent for riding tubes.
