Fiorentina's Fabio Grosso Becomes First Coach Dismissed in Major European Leagues This Season
Fabio Grosso has been dismissed as head coach of Fiorentina, making him the first coach to be fired in Europe's five major soccer leagues this season. The decision follows a poor start for the team, which has lost all three of its Serie A matches.
The club announced the termination of Grosso's contract late Sunday, a day after a 2-1 defeat to Torino. Grosso, who was appointed in June, replaced Paolo Vanoli, who had led the team to a 15th-place finish last season.
Fiorentina's performance has been lackluster, with the team scoring only one goal and conceding nine in their opening matches. The club, celebrating its 100th anniversary, will next face Venezia in Serie A and then compete against Pisa in the Italian Cup.
