Fire Erupts at Former Liverpool University Campus Amid Security Concerns
A fire occurred at the former IM Marsh campus of Liverpool John Moores University in Liverpool on Saturday afternoon, drawing attention from local residents who expressed their frustration over security issues at the site.
Fire crews responded to the blaze, which affected the roof of the unoccupied building shortly after 15:40 BST. Residents, including Dave Thomas from the Mossley Hill Residents Association, criticized the university for inadequate maintenance and security, especially as the site has been targeted by anti-social behavior.
A representative from LJMU stated that security measures had been enhanced following reports of such behavior, including dog patrols and CCTV installation. The university is in the process of selling the site, which has not been actively used since 2020. An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway.
