Firebells Sweep Hunters in WPBL Semifinals
The Firebells faced the Hunters in a best-of-three series in the WPBL postseason, starting last Wednesday. San Francisco, which finished the regular season with the best record at 10-5, won the first game 6-4 and followed up with a 9-6 victory in Game 2.
In the opening game, Kelsie Whitmore pitched for the Firebells, allowing three earned runs over five innings. Despite the Hunters' efforts, including a strong performance from their hitters, they struggled to match the Firebells' offensive power. Game 2 saw the Firebells jump to an early lead, scoring all nine runs within the first four innings, while the Hunters managed to score only four runs.
Throughout the series, the Firebells demonstrated their depth, with contributions from multiple players. The Hunters' strategy of intentionally walking Whitmore to face other hitters proved ineffective, as San Francisco's lineup consistently capitalized on scoring opportunities. The Firebells will now advance to the championship series against the winner of the Heights and Queens matchup.
