Fishing Trips Aid Veterans' Mental Health
A veterans' charity named Launchpad in Liverpool is organizing fishing trips to enhance the mental health of ex-service members. These outings take place at a fishing lake in Lancashire and are designed to provide a tranquil environment for participants.
According to Paddy Donoghue from Launchpad, the combination of concentration, tranquility, and social interaction during fishing helps veterans cope with issues such as depression and anxiety. The charity supports around 50 veterans and employs qualified instructors to lead the fishing sessions.
Research from Anglia Ruskin University indicates that regular fishing can lead to improved mental well-being. Additionally, the Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust has recognized the positive impact of such activities, noting that they promote mindfulness and reduce stress. Donoghue hopes to expand these fishing initiatives to benefit more groups beyond veterans.
