Flavio Briatore Questions Fairness of Monaco GP Appeal Process

During a press conference at the Italian Grand Prix, Flavio Briatore, an executive at Alpine Formula 1, expressed doubts regarding the impartiality of a judge involved in the appeal process concerning the Monaco Grand Prix results.

Briatore claimed that one of the judges, Filippo Marchino, has connections to McLaren, which he argued compromised the fairness of the proceedings. This appeal followed penalties imposed on Pierre Gasly for exceeding the pitlane speed limit, which were later rescinded by the FIA race stewards. However, McLaren and Red Bull contested this decision, leading to the FIA's International Court of Appeal reinstating Gasly's penalties.

In response to Briatore's allegations, McLaren team principal Andrea Stella defended the integrity of the appeal process, stating that the hearing was conducted to high standards and that such accusations were damaging to McLaren's reputation. The outcome of the appeal also benefited McLaren driver Oscar Piastri, who moved up in the standings.
