Florida Developers Propose Data Center on Former Wave Pool Site

Developers in Fort Pierce, Florida, are proposing to transform the site of the abandoned Koa Bay wave pool into a data center. The original project, which aimed to create a $595-million community featuring a surf pool, residences, and commercial spaces, never commenced due to insufficient funding and complications from power lines crossing the property.

A rezoning application submitted on June 17 seeks to designate 174 acres of the 200-acre site for light industrial use to support the data center. The remaining 26 acres would be allocated for a hotel, gas station, and restaurants.

If the rezoning is not approved, developers still have the option to build residential properties, albeit without the wave pool. Refunds are being issued for membership payments and pre-paid sessions related to the wave pool, which will not be realized.
