Florida Gators Likely to Start Tramell Jones at Quarterback Against Texas
The Florida Gators are preparing to start sophomore quarterback Tramell Jones Jr. against No. 7 Texas, as Aaron Philo is considered a game-time decision due to an injury sustained in last week's game against South Carolina.
In relief of Philo, Jones completed six of eight passes for 40 yards and one interception. Despite this performance, he has shown potential as a playmaker, having been a three-star recruit and ranked as the 25th quarterback in the 2025 signing class by 247Sports. Coach Jon Sumrall noted that Jones has been responsive during practice and is ready for the opportunity.
Florida's matchup against Texas presents a significant challenge, as the Longhorns have one of the top defenses in the nation, ranking 12th in yards allowed per game. The Gators will need to support Jones, especially with star running back Jadan Baugh facing difficulties in recent games.
