Florida Gators Secure Commitment from Four-Star Center Kamsi Awaka
The Florida Gators men's basketball team has gained a significant commitment from four-star center Kamsi Awaka, who announced his decision on Wednesday. Awaka, hailing from Blairstown, New Jersey, is recognized as the No. 5 center in the 2027 class according to 247Sports.
Awaka's commitment comes amid fierce competition from programs such as Arizona, Michigan, UConn, and Michigan State. Notably, he has a family connection to Arizona, as his older brother Tobe Awaka previously played there and was the Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year. However, the Gators successfully prioritized Awaka, emphasizing their belief in his potential development.
This summer, Awaka showcased his skills by averaging 13.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks per game during the adidas 3SSB circuit. His physical presence and ability to dominate in the paint are expected to greatly benefit the Gators moving forward.
