Flynn Riley Reflects on Early AFL Career After Joining Collingwood
Flynn Riley, the newest recruit for Collingwood, has shared his thoughts on his early experiences in the AFL following his trade from Carlton.
Riley was traded for a 2028 third-round selection and signed a four-year contract after spending six months with Carlton, where he was selected in the Mid-Season Draft. He expressed that the move to Collingwood felt right after discussions with recruiters Justin Leppitsch and Shane O'Bree, emphasizing the opportunity it presented.
During his time at Carlton, Riley learned from players like Marc Pittonet and ruck coach Matthew Kreuzer. He acknowledged the importance of timing and balance in ruck play, describing it as a strategic challenge. Riley, a lifelong Collingwood supporter, played one game for Carlton, where he scored a goal that held special meaning for his family, particularly as a tribute to his grandmother, who had recently overcome breast cancer.
