Former AFL Chairman Calls for Independent Inquiry into Geelong Concussion Issue

Tony Cochrane, the former chairman of the Gold Coast AFL club, has criticized the Geelong concussion controversy, referring to it as a significant failure and advocating for an independent inquiry.

Cochrane emphasized that the AFL should not serve as both judge and jury in the matter involving Jake Kolodjashnij's secret clause, particularly since the AFL Commission's current chairman, Craig Drummond, was the president of Geelong during the incident. He expressed that only a select few, including the Geelong board, are fully aware of the details surrounding the case.

He stated that an independent investigation is essential for transparency, suggesting that qualified judges in Victoria could be appointed to oversee the inquiry. Cochrane remarked that the situation should not be treated solely as an internal AFL issue, highlighting the need for impartiality in the investigation.
