Former Chicago Bears Fullback Matt Suhey Passes Away at 68

Matt Suhey, the former fullback for the Chicago Bears and a member of the 1985 Super Bowl championship team, has died at the age of 68, as reported on Sunday.

The Chicago Sun-Times indicated that the team confirmed Suhey's passing. Drafted by Chicago in the second round of the 1980 NFL Draft from Penn State, Suhey played his entire NFL career with the Bears from 1980 to 1989. Over his career, he recorded 828 carries for 2,946 yards and 20 touchdowns, along with 260 receptions for 2,113 yards and five touchdowns across 148 regular-season games.

In addition to his regular-season achievements, Suhey participated in nine playoff games, starting each one, and scored a touchdown during the Bears' Super Bowl XX victory against the New England Patriots. He was known for his role as the lead blocker for Hall of Fame running back Walter Payton. Suhey was also recognized as one of the 100 Greatest Bears of All Time by the Chicago Sun-Times in 2019.
