Former Coach Critiques Selection Committee's Treatment of Mohammed Shami

Bharat Arun, the former bowling coach for India, has raised concerns regarding the treatment of Mohammed Shami by the current selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar. Arun emphasized that Shami, despite being 36 years old, still has much to contribute to the team.

Shami has not played for India since the Champions Trophy in March 2025, where the team emerged victorious. His absence from the national squad has persisted even as he has delivered impressive performances in domestic cricket. Arun noted that Shami's exclusion is particularly evident during periods when Jasprit Bumrah is unavailable, with selectors opting for younger players instead.

Arun believes that age should not be a disqualifying factor for Shami, especially given his consistent performance. He pointed out that Shami is currently participating in the Duleep Trophy final, representing East Zone, which offers him another chance to showcase his skills. Ishan Kishan, the captain of East Zone, has also remarked on Shami's renewed intensity and desire to return to the national team.
