Former Raiders Running Back Pete Banaszak Passes Away at 82
Former Oakland Raiders running back Pete Banaszak has passed away at the age of 82, as announced by the team on Saturday.
Banaszak was drafted by the Raiders in the fifth round of the 1966 AFL draft after a three-year collegiate career at Miami. He played 13 seasons with the Raiders, contributing significantly during both the AFL and NFL eras, including being part of the team’s first Super Bowl-winning squad and the famous 'Holy Roller' play.
Over his career, Banaszak accumulated 3,772 rushing yards, ranking eighth in franchise history, and his 16 rushing touchdowns in 1975 led the NFL that season, a record that still stands for the Raiders. He made at least 10 appearances each season until his retirement in 1978 and was inducted into the National Polish-American Sports Hall of Fame in 1990. The Raiders expressed their condolences to Banaszak's family, highlighting his legacy within the team.
