John Anson, a former professional wrestler recognized as 'Handsome' and also known as Karl von Schotz, has died at the age of 77 in Sosua, Dominican Republic, where he resided for the last 25 years.
Anson was born on April 7, 1949, in Vancouver, British Columbia, and began his wrestling career at 17 in Stampede Wrestling, facing Ivan Koloff in his debut match. He achieved notable success in 1976, winning the North American Championship twice before losing it to Archie Gouldie.
Throughout his career, Anson secured tag team titles in various promotions, partnering with wrestlers like Karl von Hess and Don Leo Jonathan. After retiring from wrestling at 35, he briefly promoted events in the 1980s and owned a marina and resort near Vancouver.
