Formula 1 Plans Imola Finale Amid Middle East Security Concerns
Formula 1 is contemplating a major adjustment to the 2026 World Championship calendar, potentially moving the season finale from the Middle East to Imola due to rising security threats. This decision follows recent violent incidents, including bombings at Riyadh airport.
The governing body of the sport is preparing to replace the Qatar and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix with the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, scheduled for December 6. Preparations for this shift have been underway, including the construction of temporary grandstands.
This change would significantly impact the championship standings, reducing the total available points from 150 to 125. Currently, Mercedes driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli leads the standings with 340 points, and if the calendar is shortened, he is likely to secure the championship before the season concludes.
