Formula 2 Introduces Expanded Race Format for Baku Weekend
Formula 2 is set to enhance its Baku weekend by introducing a second qualifying session and an additional Feature Race, taking place from September 24-26. This change comes as Formula 2 will be the sole support category at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, allowing for an expanded schedule.
The weekend will kick off with a 45-minute practice session on Thursday, followed by two 20-minute qualifying sessions. The results from the first session will determine the grid for the Sprint Race and the first Feature Race on Friday. The second Feature Race on Saturday will utilize the results from the second qualifying session.
Bruno Michel, the chief executive of Formula 2, noted that Baku's reputation for exciting races makes it an ideal location for this new format. The championship confirmed that the traditional race formats will continue in Qatar and Abu Dhabi, indicating that the Baku changes are a temporary adjustment rather than a shift in the overall season structure.
