Four Mid-Major College Basketball Teams to Watch This Season
The upcoming college basketball season is set to feature several mid-major teams that could disrupt the postseason landscape. Among them are New Mexico, Grand Canyon, Murray State, and Wichita State, each with unique strengths and promising rosters.
New Mexico aims to capitalize on the departure of Utah State and San Diego State to the Pac-12, having finished tied for third in the Mountain West last season. The Lobos will rely on Mountain West Freshman of the Year Jake Hall, who averaged 16.4 points per game. They have already secured a victory against Oklahoma State in an exhibition game and will face tough nonconference opponents like Wichita State and Utah State.
Grand Canyon also looks to make waves in the Mountain West, returning key players like Jaden Henley and Makaih Williams. The team has a challenging nonconference schedule that includes matchups against Oklahoma State and Memphis. Meanwhile, Murray State is under the guidance of second-year coach Ryan Miller, who is focusing on international talent to enhance competitiveness in the Missouri Valley Conference. Lastly, Wichita State, led by coach Paul Mills, is building on recent successes and returns a significant portion of its roster, including standout Kenyon Giles.
