Four Missing as Heavy Rain Hits Southern and Eastern Taiwan

Four individuals are reported missing following severe rainfall in southern and eastern Taiwan on Monday, prompting the closure of schools and offices in affected areas.

A low-pressure system has caused significant flooding, particularly in the cities of Kaohsiung and Tainan, where local governments ordered closures. The cumulative rainfall is expected to exceed 1.3 meters over five days, which is nearly half of the annual average for the region.

According to Taiwan's fire department, three missing persons are located in Hualien and one in Tainan. TSMC, the leading contract chipmaker, confirmed that its operations in Taiwan are running normally after completing heavy rain preparations. Meanwhile, disruptions to train services have been reported, and authorities are advising residents to stay indoors as Typhoon Saudel approaches the region.
