Franco Baresi's Funeral Draws Thousands in Milan

On Tuesday, thousands gathered in Milan to pay their respects at the funeral of Franco Baresi, a legendary defender for AC Milan and the Italian national team, who passed away last week at the age of 66 following health issues.

Baresi, who spent his entire 20-year professional career at AC Milan, made 719 appearances and scored 33 goals. He captained the team for 15 seasons and won 18 major trophies, including six Serie A titles and three Champions League titles. He also represented Italy 81 times, contributing to their 1982 World Cup victory and playing in the 1994 final.

The funeral service took place at Sant'Ambrogio Basilica, attended by notable figures from AC Milan's history, including Paolo Maldini and Marco van Basten. While the current AC Milan squad is on a pre-season tour in Australia, some players, including Christian Pulisic, were present. AC Milan plans to honor Baresi before their upcoming friendly match against Inter.
