Franco Colapinto and Mercado Libre Executive Criticize FIA Stewards After Dutch GP Penalties
Franco Colapinto faced two penalties during the Dutch Grand Prix, which sparked significant backlash from the Argentine driver and a senior executive from Mercado Libre, his main sponsor in Formula 1.
The penalties were issued after Colapinto overtook Yuki Tsunoda just as Max Verstappen crashed ahead, triggering yellow flags. Despite the conditions, Colapinto completed the pass, resulting in a drive-through penalty that dashed his hopes of scoring points. Another driver, Arvid Lindblad, received a similar penalty for overtaking Pierre Gasly.
Colapinto expressed his dissatisfaction with the stewards' decisions, arguing that the rules should allow for more flexibility given the challenging conditions. He received a second penalty later in the race, along with three penalty points on his license. Sean Summers, Chief Marketing Officer of Mercado Libre, echoed Colapinto's sentiments, criticizing the stewards for their handling of the situation and questioning the integrity of the FIA.
