Franco Colapinto Reflects on Missed Opportunity at Monza

Franco Colapinto concluded the Italian Grand Prix at Monza with two points, aware that he had the potential for a better finish. Starting from seventh, the Alpine driver moved up during the early laps and was in fourth position for the restart following an accident involving Charles Leclerc. He managed to overtake Max Verstappen to briefly secure third place, but lost it shortly after.

Colapinto's race took a turn for the worse at Lesmo when he lost control of his car, resulting in a drop to 16th place after going through the gravel. Despite sustaining some damage, he and his team made adjustments, allowing him to recover to ninth by the end of the race. His teammate, Pierre Gasly, finished seventh, contributing to a total of eight points for Alpine on a day that had initially promised more.

Colapinto expressed frustration over the missed opportunity, noting that Alpine rarely competes with teams like Mercedes, Red Bull, Ferrari, and McLaren at the front. He acknowledged that passing Verstappen was less satisfying given the circumstances. The next race in Madrid will be an opportunity for him to apply the lessons learned from this experience.
